    Admittedly, Steak n Shake prices give it the one star it gets. It took at least 10 minutes to order. It took over 30 minutes to get our food. The burgers were tough and crunchy. The fries were chewy. Everything was lukewarm. We ordered fresh food and it took another 30 minutes to get fresh food. We asked to speak with a manager and our waitress offered to get the manager, but we were never able to speak with a manager. Not a good place to go if you're in a hurry.

    We come here a lot and usually it's pretty quick service here but tonight it's easy to see they're having problems in the kitchen. You could hear the wait staff complaining, and our waiter came by a number of times to apologize for the delay. When the food finally came out the burgers were fine but the fries were cold, not not warm, but cold! Told our waiter and he took them back. A few minutes later a manager came out and asked what could be done: told him we just wanted what we had ordered. True to his word, 2 minutes later hot fries were delivered and they took $4 off the bill. This is not what we normally experience, but let it be known that slow service is not always you server, sometimes there are "problems" in the kitchen.

    We primarily have used the drive through on our visits. We try every several months because we grew up eating Steak 'n Shake in IL and crave their Chili dishes from time to time. There has never been a time where my order was correct. There is always something missing, something made wrong, or something completely different from what we ordered. It is ridiculous. They also regularly give small potions on certain items like Chili Mac supreme or if you order cheese sauce for fries (if they remember to put it in at all). We've had different staff so it isn't just one person who is the problem. I'm assuming it's the training. The staff is also rude and not so bright. I often get blank stares, non-caring attitudes, or arguments when I point out the mistakes in our order. I rarely get any form of apology. Usually just a blank or disdainful look as they shove what they forgot at me. I never send back my food but I do request anything that is missing.

    Horrible service, our waitress wanted our order right away and when we weren't ready she was gone for what seem like ages.....food was so so....We liked our shakes though! But waited quite awhile to order them as our waitress went outside and no one took over for her.

    Totally hit or miss. The burger with the egg on top is very good, borderline excellent. Royale, maybe, it's called? On other occasions, they really drop the ball. One time, they had barely functional A/C when I stopped in. Another time, my food (spaghetti/chili) was literally stone cold in the center, and when I mentioned this the server was less than helpful. I emailed them with some feedback, politely, after that visit and never heard a thing back. Slow drive thru, forget it. They cook to order, so go in and eat or order at the counter. Don't sit there in your Canyonero like a dbag idling for 10 minutes. If you hit them on a good day, very good. Not so good day, bad. Flip a coin.

    Came to use a coupon for 4 meals and 4 shakes. Specifically told server ahead of time of coupon. We were not aware till paying that we were limited to certain shakes of which we did not order their plain shakes. Manager got involved and told me I was out of luck and had to pay full price. She reprimanded server that she needs to ask about unknown coupons so this does not happen again. I was disappointed that no discounts were allowed for me. I came here because of coupon offer and will never return. The food is not worth it and service definitely not worth returning. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

    Uhg. If you know me, you know I HATE reviewing chain restaurants. You can expect pretty much the same food and quality at every single location. However, I do end up eating at them every so often and I like to reward great service with a great review. I really wish I was here to do that this time. So, steak burgers and shakes. Yes, they have them, they're ok, and they're pretty reasonably priced. What you'll also get that you're not expecting is some of the worst most negligent service you'll likely have. GF and I went in at about 2:30, and waited maybe 3 minutes (the lobby was empty, and the restaurant maybe half full with 1 table of 8) before the waitress in the back on her phone noticed and sat us. We then waited another 4-5 minutes to be recognized by any of the 3-4 staff milling about the restaurant trying to look busy. Finally our server came by, took our order and brought drinks. The waiting begins. 10 minutes pass and I'm eyeing the window in the kitchen. I see food start piling up for the 8 top. Minutes pass. Food sits in the window. I start to ask myself why noone has brought that tray to the large table waiting for their food. Another 10 minutes and food finally leaves the window. "It's getting sent back" I think to myself. Sure enough, dishes start to return to the kitchen. At this point we're 20 minutes after ordering, 1 waitress is talking on her phone in the back, one is doing trash, and one is doing silverware. I see more food go into the window and sit. More time passes and another table or two is served. Great, ours should be up soon, I'm starving and wondering if they'd forgotten about us. At this point, noone has stopped by our table to apologize for the huge wait. Noone has asked if we needed anything. No contact whatsoever. We were passed by our waitress at least 3 times without a glance. Waitress finally arrives about 25 minutes in and apologizes and offers us free shakes (I'm guessing the 8 top talking to the manager, explaining they've waited an hour and a half has something to do with the sudden hospitality). Ok, so maybe they're getting their act together. Order shakes. More time passes. I look over at the window anxiously and see our shakes in the hands of our waitress, and I see my burger in the window. The waitress puts the shakes down and goes behind the line into the kitchen. She's talking to someone. More time passes. They forgot fries on our tray. More waiting. We're now about 35-40 minutes since ordering, my burger has been in the window for 7-10 minutes, and my shake has been sitting on the counter for 5. This is the point where we both get up and leave. TL;DR Expect to have the worst service when going to this Steak and Shake.

    The place needs a good cleaning! In the morning,Dirty silverware, tables and the entire place needs to be scrubbed down, we had breakfast, but Poor service, ok food, could be better.

    Always love visiting Steak N Shake when I'm in the Midwest! Royal Steakburger is the BOMB! Also love Peanut Butter Cup shake.
